SAFE Executive Director Tiffanie Jackson and board member & volunteer Denise Elinski spoke with Fox 8 WGHP yesterday about how budget cuts to vital federal programs like TEFAP are already impacting local food pantries — and how proposed SNAP cuts could make the situation even worse.

We now have a kitchen library where our neighbors can borrow kitchen supplies. We are looking for gently-used small kitchen appliances such as crock pots, immersion blenders, and instapots. 

Fox8 recently spoke with Executive Director Tiffanie Jackson about our community refrigerator program.

I started volunteering at SAFE in 2022 after having retired from ABSS as a school counselor. 

SAFE is proud to partner with Cone Health and provide access to free nursing care at our food pantries and farmer's market. We now have a new nurse — Nurse Amanda.

Hosted in support of The Bridge and S.A.F.E. food ministries, participants in the run can take pride in knowing that their involvement directly contributes to these vital organizations, which collect and distribute food to individuals and families facing food insecurity in the region.

"I have been volunteering at SAFE from the beginning of SAFE in 2013 and all of its transitions and changes. My favorite part is getting to know the people that volunteer and my neighbors. I also find that it has brought me closer to God. It is amazing how he provides!

Tiffanie Jackson, executive director of SAFE, said lack of transportation emerged as the number one need during a series of listening sessions the nonprofit held in early 2023 with volunteers, clients and community partners.

We started in 2013 providing food to 16 families. Last year we served more than 3,500 families and our services have expanded to offer our neighbors even more resources including connections to healthcare through our nursing clinics and educational services.

SAFE teamed up with the Mebane Post Office for Stamp Out Hunger on Saturday, May 10. Thanks to the amazing generosity of our community, we collected 4,121 pounds of food to help feed our neighbors in need.
