SAFE and the N.C. Cooperative Extension are jointly hosing a sourdough making classes!

Fermentation: We'll talk about the stable culture of wild yeast and lactic acid bacteria that ferment in your starter that help make the dough rise and gives it its characteristic tangy flavors

Safety: You'll learn how to keep your starter and your kitchen clean and safe.

Caring for Your Starter: We'll show you how to feed and care for your starter so it stays healthy.

The Rising Process: We'll teach you how to know when your dough is ready to bake.

Dough Handling: Get hands-on practice with handling and stretching dough!

What to Do with Discards: Starter grows when you feed it! Find out what to do with the extra starter you don't use to bake bread.

A yummy crockpot meal provided by SAFE.

A sample of tasty sourdough bread.

Your very own Sourdough Starter Kit to take home! This kit includes a jar, a coffee filter and rubber band to cover it, bread bags and stickers.

Your own live sourdough starter and organic flour to get you started.
